That’s no moon, that’s a blog account!

Recently there was a widespread hashtagathon, in recognition of the government’s ideas of giving tax breaks to games that are “Culturally British” what follows are my favourite of what I saw, although don’t worry, I won’t repeat my own ones as I’m not that narcissistic just yet (even though mine were blatantly better.

  • Pro Evolution Football
  • Godalming of War
  • Zone of the Eastenders
  • Dad’s Army of Two
  • Queue-Bert
  • Drop the Dead Donkey Kong
  • Need For Speed Bumps
  • Yes, Metroid Prime Minister
  • 50p: Blood on the Sand
  • Margaret Thatcher & Clank

And perhaps the most apt, and I dare say the most frequently used:

  • Heavy Rain

Words are not needed, just watch, and bask in the warm glow of awesome.

Mass Effect 2 Cast = Nerdgasm
By: Paul Clark | December 12th, 2009

Okay, let’s just run down the IMDB list here…

Seth Green; From Family Guy to Buffy, oh and he was in Scooby Doo…oh and Heroes, and the last Mass Effect. This man is in so many things I watch, it’s like I’m stalking him.

Which, for the record, I totally would.

Keith David; back from the first game, this is the gamer man’s man, from Halo to Mass Effect to Saints Row to Call of Duty. If you are shooting someone, you’ll probably hear this dude. Oh, and apparently he was in Gamer, but please don’t hold that against him.

Yvonne Strahovski; Apparently playing “the genetically engineered perfect woman” in Mass Effect 2, after seeing her play super sexy super secret agent Sarah Walker in the geektastic series Chuck, I think they already achieved that.

Adam Baldwin; I only really need one word, to make me go weak at the knees for this man. Firefly.

Although, when has only needing one word stopped me typing more? ODST, Chuck, and apparently has played Hal Jordan, Jonah Hex, Superman and was in Predator 2. If loving that is wrong, I don’t want to be right.

Michael Hogan; I’m not even going to look at the list for this man, I’m just going to mention that this is Colonel Saul Tigh. That is fracking enough for me. So say we all!

Okay, IMDB seems not as full as I had hoped, so I’ll post the characters from the video I’m about to link too.

Martin Sheen – Maybe not a “geek legend” as much as some of the other actors here, but the fact is he is a 100% ceritifed actual legend. If you disagree, you are wrong, you can go now.

Tricia Helfer - Playing a computer in this game, she states “I have some experience playing robots” and if you don’t know that her from Battlestar Galactica, then I urge you to watch it now, I was a fool who waited too long to watch this series. Don’t be like me, be better.

Carrie Ann Moss – “Neo…oh crap, a pole, that was unfortunate…”

That’s right, the star of everyone’s favourite death scene, because she was annoying and it was good she died. It’s Trinity!

Michael Dorn – Worf…Mother-Fracking Lieitenant Worf!

If that isn’t enough to make you certifiably moist, then how about you hear these lovely people in action…or in voice…oh, just click the bloody box already.

So…This Just Happened

There is a certain amount in life where the phrase “It’s for the kids” can sound so very creepy. Frankly, any more I say will only diminish what has just transpired. So, I will grant you a snapshot at what lack of sleep, donations and 2 guys too ashamed to come out of the closet can get you.

Now, I’m not someone who usually goes for all this player versus player action, and pretty much steered clear of it all (except when necessary) in something like World of Warcraft, but for Modern Warfare 2, that is pretty much the only thing I have done. So I have to give a massive round of applause to Infinity Ward for making love this aspect, as it is entirely down to every minor and major design choice they have made.

However, something Infinity Ward haven’t had control over, is the players online…and, dear god do they just make your brain bleed sometimes.

Whilst I’ll not class myself as an avid Halo fan, I have churned my way through the majority of the games. Although, I got bored and gave up on ODST. But it is a fine example of the state of alot of games today, that they no longer exist solely as just a game experience. From comics, to novels, to movies, to anime they are branching out into various other areas. Not just that but they also compile a staggering array of media surrounding the game. Giving the player’s a chance to steep together a lot of the media you have on a franchise in one place is a fantastic idea. Read more… »

Put it down, and walk away
By: Paul Clark | August 25th, 2009

After my previous post about “paying for quality” I decided to go on a forage of indie games, and find a selection of titles worthy of money. Now, my first find was a game called Tower of Heaven, http://askiisoft.com/ , although after playing it for a while now I realise it was a typo, and the game’s proper title should have read something alonfg the lines of “Tower of Holy Crap! I Hate You! Just Die Already!”

There are some stories, articles, thoughts and rants  you read on the internet and just go “meh” or maybe “whatever” or some kind of other ambivelant comments, and I read a lot of those, and my brain is very used to such a “meh” comment. Hell, I probably write a lot of those.
However, today I have been reading and watching a few articles over on Destructoid by Reverend Anthony, someone I had only really seen before from “Hey Ashley, Whatcha Playin?” and this guy makes so many interesting points on a variety of areas of gaming. The specific one that made me want to talk about it, was the Rev Rant titled Donate.
In this vid, he poses the question: Why do we pay $60 for a game, based on hopes from interviews, previews, demos, gameplay videos and the such on a big old gamble that a game will be good, then being disappointed and inevitably blogging it up how bad the game was. Yet, we all know we have played indie games for free that have been better than a game you paid full price for. I have played dozens of them, a free indie title on any number of sites that have entertained me more than the Force Unleashed or the Hellboy game, or numerous other titles I have disliked. Yet, have I donated? Have I paid the money for these creative people making great and thought provoking games, but never hitting mainstream due to the 8bit stylings that the limited money can afford? No. I’m sure many of you are in the same boat.
Why pay all this money on a gamble whether a game will be good or bad, when you can support the creator of a game you just played and you know was good. Would you want another Cave Story or another Army of Two? Another game by the guy who made Passage or a game by the guys behind Shellshock?
The power actually is ours, we get to choose where to spend our money, so make the right choice and make a choice that will lead to better games for all of us, make the choice that when we come to defending games as we all end up doing we have an unending list of games that don’t contain 12 ways to make heads explode, make the choice so that the idea of defending games is a thing of the past.

Rev
